Dry Needling Therapy

Category Dry Needling Therapy

Muscles sometimes develop knobby areas called trigger points. These trigger points are very sensitive and can be painful to the touch. They are also often the cause of referred pain. Doctors insert strong, thin needles through the skin at trigger points. The needles are used to stimulate tissue, not to inject the medication.

Pain affects the way your body moves. Dry needling is thought to change the way the brain and muscles communicate with each other, allowing the system to return to a more normal pattern of movement.

A patient may experience various sensations when stung, muscle aches, pain, and muscle spasms when a needle is inserted are considered good signs. The needles can be placed deep or on the surface for longer or shorter periods depending on the type of pain to be treated and its duration. Shorter periods would mean leaving the needle in the muscle for a few seconds, while longer periods might mean 10-15 minutes.
